Towering piles of garbage and damaged boats greet people taking the small ferry boats to Pinel Island from Anse Marcel on the French side. Pinel has been restored to its former glory as a tourism hotspot, but visitors and residents alike are confronted with the garbage piles complete with buzzing flies and other insects before and after taking a trip to the islet.
