Rescue in freak accident

This taxi/bus with cruise ship passengers on board, for unknown reasons ended up in the Bay of Marigot, at the market area of the waterfront on Sunday afternoon.

Two of the passengers said to be in serious condition were transported to the French-side hospital. Occupants were saved from drowning by a group of quick-thinking youths who dove into the water to get everyone out of the vehicle that also turned over and was largely submerged. President Daniel Gibbs saluted the courage of the young people who helped the passengers escape. “This heroic act saved lives, they showed ‘sang-froid’ and great courage. They can be proud of their actions,” he said of the young rescuers. (Photo Le Pélican Facebook)
