SURFACE WINDS: 
This afternoon through Thursday midday: Southeast to east with a gentle to moderate breeze of 08 to 15 miles per hour.

SYNOPSIS: 

Available moisture and slight instability across the local region may account for cloudy periods and possible isolated showers. An approaching tropical wave will increase the chance for showers toward the latter part of the forecast period.

Seas will remain near 5 feet for the next several days.

SPECIAL FEATURE:  
At 11am, category 3 Hurricane Matthew was nearing the Bahamas with maximum sustained winds near 120 mph.

Tropical Storm Nicole located more than 400 miles north-northeast of St. Maarten continues moving northwestwards with maximum sustained winds near 50 mph.  

Meanwhile a tropical wave located south east of the Lesser Antilles could increase the chances of showers over the local region on Thursday and Friday.

The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor these systems.
