This afternoon through Tuesday midday: Fair to partly cloudy, hazy and breezy.

SURFACE WINDS:  This afternoon through Tuesday midday: Easterly with a gentle to fresh breeze of 12 to 19 mph and possible higher gusts.  

    

SYNOPSIS:     

A tightened pressure gradient will cause gentle to fresh winds during this forecast period. Additionally, a relatively dry and stable atmosphere will continue to restrict precipitation.  

Seas will peak at 7 feet during the next few days. Small craft operator and sea bathers should exercise caution.  

   

STATE OF THE SEA: Moderate       WAVES/SWELLS: 5 to 7 feet   

    

SPECIAL FEATURE:   

  1. A fast-moving tropical wave located a couple hundred miles east of the Windward Islands is moving westward near 20 mph and producing disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity. This rapid forward speed will limit its development while the system approaches the Windward and southern Leeward Islands today. 

* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.  

* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...50 percent.  

 

  1. Another tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic is producing disorganized cloudiness and showers. This wave is forecast to move westward to west northwestward at 15 to 20 mph over the next few days. Environmental conditions are expected to become more conducive for the development of a tropical depression during the middle-to-latter part of this week. * Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 20 percent. * Formation chance through 5 days...medium...60 percent.  

 

THE METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT OF ST. MAARTEN WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THESE SYSTEMS AND UPDATE THE PUBLIC.
