WEATHER:  

This afternoon: Generally cloudy, hazy and breezy with isolated showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

Tonight through Tuesday midday: Partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated showers possible.

SURFACE WINDS:  This afternoon through Tuesday midday: East southeast with a gentle to fresh breeze of 10 to 19 mph and higher gusts possible.

 

SYNOPSIS:  

Moisture and instability associated with a tropical wave will cause cloudiness, isolated showers and possible thunderstorms across the region.

Seas are expected to gradually deteriorate during the next few days. Small craft operators and sea bathers are advised to exercise caution.

 

STATE OF THE SEA:  Moderate           WAVES/SWELLS: 5 to 7 feet

 

SPECIAL FEATURES:  A small low pressure system located over the central tropical Atlantic is moving slowly west northwestward to northwestward. Showers and thunderstorms associated with this system have increased this morning and conditions are expected to be conducive for the formation of a tropical depression during the next couple of days.

 Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...60 percent.

 Formation chance through 5 days...high...90 percent.

 

The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the progress of this system and update the public accordingly.

 

OUTLOOK through Wednesday midday: Partly cloudy and breezy with isolated showers possible.
