WEATHER:  

This afternoon: Fair to partly cloudy with a local shower possible.

Tonight through Saturday midday: Partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

SURFACE WINDS:  This afternoon through Saturday morning: East to southeast with a light to gentle breeze of 04 to 12 mph.

 

SYNOPSIS:  

A relatively dry, stable and warm air mass will limit precipitation this afternoon. By tonight, a tropical wave will begin affecting the local region. The associated moisture and instability will increase cloudiness and the chances of showers along with a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms.

Seas will peak near 5 feet during the next few days.

 

STATE OF THE SEA:  Slight to moderate           WAVES/SWELLS: 3 to 5 feet

 

SPECIAL FEATURES:  A tropical wave located midway between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles is producing a large but disorganized area of cloudiness and showers.  Conditions are expected to become more conducive for development in a couple days, and a tropical depression could form early next week while the system moves westward across the tropical Atlantic.

* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...50 percent.

 

Another tropical wave is located a few hundred miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands. Slow development of this system is possible during the next several days while this wave moves westward across the tropical Atlantic.

* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.

 

The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the progress of this system and update the public accordingly.

 

OUTLOOK through Sunday midday: Partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated showers.
