SYNOPSIS:
The Atlantic high pressure system will continue to generate mostly gentle easterly winds across the region during this forecast period. Drifting pockets of moisture at the lower level of the atmosphere may cause isolated showers.
Seas are expected to remain slight to moderate through the next few days.
STATE OF THE SEA: Slight to moderate WAVES/SWELLS: 3 to 5 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE: At 11:00 am today the center of Tropical Storm Gabrielle was located near latitude 20.5 north, longitude 33.8 west or about 1910 miles east of St. Maarten. Gabrielle is moving toward the northwest near 09 mph (15 km/h) and this general motion is forecast to continue through Saturday. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days.
This system currently poses no threat to St Maarten.
A tropical wave is forecast to emerge over the far eastern tropical Atlantic later today. Environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for development later this week and a tropical depression could form over the weekend or early next week, while the system moves westward to west-northwestward.
