SYNOPSIS:
A relatively drier atmosphere will limit precipitation across the local area today. While moisture associated with an approaching tropical wave will cause brief isolated showers tonight into tomorrow morning. Caution is still advised due to saturated soils from recent rainfall, where rock fall and/or landslides remain possible in vulnerable areas.
Moderate marine conditions will prevail for the next few days, with wave heights up to 6 feet. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution.
STATE OF THE SEA: Slight to moderate WAVES/SWELLS: 4 to 6 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE: As of 8:00am, the vigorous tropical wave located in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, several hundred miles east-southeast of the Eastern Caribbean, continues to produce a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
Only gradual development of this system is expected for the next day or so while it moves west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph.
Environmental conditions could become more supportive by Saturday and a tropical depression is likely to form over the weekend, several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles.
It currently has a high (70 percent) chance of formation through the next 5 days.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor this feature.
OUTLOOK through Saturday midday: Partly cloudy to cloudy and breezy with isolated showers possible.
