SURFACE WINDS:
This afternoon through Thursday midday: Easterly to southeasterly, with a light to moderate breeze, at 6 to 15 mph.

SYNOPSIS:
A high-pressure ridge will dominate and maintain light to moderate winds. Meanwhile, a mid-level trough is increasing instability over the area and will support isolated showers.
Slight to moderate sea conditions will persist. Meanwhile, long-period northeasterly swells will continue to abate and become minor starting overnight. Small craft operators and sea bathers should continue to exercise caution.

STATE OF THE SEA: Slight to moderate       WAVES/SWELLS: 3 to 5 feet

SPECIAL FEATURE:
Hurricane Melissa remains at a safe distance away from St. Maarten and poses NO DIRECT THREAT to the island.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the Atlantic and update the public accordingly.
