SYNOPSIS:
A dry and stable air mass with suspended Saharan dust is spreading across the northeast Caribbean. Consequently, cloudiness and precipitation will be restricted across the local area during this forecast period. Meanwhile, a weak Atlantic high pressure system will produce gentle to moderate easterly winds.
Seas are expected to remain slight to moderate and peak near 5 feet or less for the next few days.

SPECIAL FEATURE:
Tropical Storm Irma has formed in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean about 420 miles west of the Carbo Verde Islands. This system is moving towards the west near 13 mph and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days. There is currently no immediate threat to any lands areas. The maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Tropical Storm Irma could become a hurricane on Friday as some strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours.
The Meteorological Department of St Maarten (MDS) will continue to monitor the progress of this system. Members of the public are advised to monitor the updates on the progress of this system as well.
