WEATHER:    

This afternoon through Monday midday: Increasingly cloudy to overcast and windy with scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Forecast High: 31°C / 88°F             Forecast Low: 26°C / 79°F

SURFACE WINDS: This afternoon through Monday midday: East northeast to southeasterly with a moderate to strong breeze of 13 to 25 mph, and higher gusts.

SYNOPSIS:

Moisture and instability associated with an area of low pressure is affecting the region. Across the local area, moderate to heavy showers could lead to flooding and rockslides. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are also expected. Therefore, residents and visitors in vulnerable areas should take the necessary precautions.

Brisk winds will maintain windy conditions and hazardous seas through this evening. Consequently, a small craft advisory remains in effect. Small craft operators and swimmers should exercise caution.

STATE OF THE SEA:  Moderate to rough           WAVES/SWELLS: 6 to 8 feet

SPECIAL FEATURES:

1.   A broad area of low pressure south of the region, has a high (70%) chance of additional formation within the next 2 days. Regardless of development, increasing cloudiness and rainfall up to about 3 inches are possible with thunderstorms and gusty winds across the local area.

2.   Tropical Depression 6 located about 625 miles east of St. Maarten is moving toward the west near 12 mph. The depression is anticipated to turn into a remnant low and dissipate on Monday.

3.   Tropical Storm Emily formed and is located several hundred miles west northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. This system is likely to become a post-tropical remnant low by Tuesday.

Residents and visitors are urged to remain vigilant and monitor all subsequent updates.

The Meteorological Department St. Maarten will continue to monitor the progress of these systems and update the public accordingly.
