Prosecutor drops case against 66-year-old man

ST. EUSTATIUS--The Prosecutor’s Office has dismissed the criminal case against A.J.J.E. (66) from Statia for lack of evidence. The man was suspected of mistreating schoolchildren ages six and seven years and of having carried out a lewd act.

The Prosecutor’s Office announced its decision in a press statement on Tuesday.

The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force KPCN carried out an investigation in Statia into the alleged crimes in cooperation with specialised investigators from KPCN Bonaire. However, the investigation did not yield sufficient evidence for the Prosecutor’s Office to take the case to Court.

Parents and the school director attended an information meeting at the children’s school on Monday evening, during which the Prosecutor’s Office explained its decision and gave the parents the opportunity to pose questions.
