Process started to suspend Tromp

WILLEMSTAD--The process to suspend President of Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS) Emsley Tromp has been started. This was announced by Curaçao Finance Minister José Jardim at a press conference in Curaçao this afternoon.

In the interim, Jerry Hasselmeyer and another member of the Central Bank management team will direct the operations of the bank in the absence of Tromp.

It is expected that within three weeks an independent professional from outside the Central Bank will be found to fill to post of the presidency of the bank temporarily for the duration of Tromp’s suspension.

The announcement about Tromp’s suspension comes on the heels of an ongoing investigation into suspicions that Tromp has committed personal tax fraud. Tromp’s home and a trust company were searched by the anti-corruption unit of the Kingdom Detective Cooperation Team RST on August 10.
