Price gougers will be fined

POND ISLAND--Residents are urged to be vigilant and report all instances of price gouging in the wake of monster Hurricane Irma. Heavy fines will be issued by government to any supermarket and lumber company caught charging exorbitant prices.

Residents should save their receipts and report suspected price gouging to the Ministry of Tourism and Economic Affairs. The Economic Inspection Department is executing controls and handing out fines to businesses if necessary. The issuing of fines is regulated by the prices regulation law.

Tourism and Economic Affairs Minister Mellissa Arrindell-Doncher asks all businesses not to take advantage of the situation and/or the people. Reports of price gouging were received by the Minister before the hurricane impacted the area.
