Port insurance claim tagged at $8 million

PORT--Port St. Maarten’s aggregate claims for damages caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017 will be around US $8 million.

Insurance claims are, to a large extent, filed by Port management. Negotiations are still ongoing with the various insurers on the pay-out.
The claim covers the damage to Cruise Pier South, port facilities and equipment. Repair work on the damaged section of the cruise pier is ongoing and is expected to be completed by month’s end.
“All is going pretty well in that regard. We are waiting for the completion of the works,” according to the Port.
