Police rules out reckless driving in fatal accident

SIMPSON BAY--The investigation into the cause of the death of a two-year-old toddler who was run over by a car in the parking area at the Buccaneer Beach Bar on Sunday, November 19, has determined that the driver involved in the incident was not driving recklessly.

Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a press release on Tuesday, that the incident was “an unfortunate traffic accident.” He said the driver simply could not see the young child when he had been reversing his vehicle, which struck the toddler. The child was treated on the scene by paramedics, but passed away at approximately 2:45pm that day; the incident occurred around 1:30pm.
“After the in-depth investigating at scene of the accident and questioning of the driver of the vehicle, [there were, Ed.] no indications of any reckless driving behaviour or other negative intentions were found,” Henson said in the release.
The police extended its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the young child.
