Police officers arrest supermarket robbers

ST. PETERS--Police arrested two persons believed to be responsible for a supermarket robbery in St. Peters on Apricot Road on Saturday.

  Armed, dressed in black and wearing a mask, a man entered Desam Supermarket and threatened the cashier with a handgun. The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash, ran towards the back of the building and disappeared from the area. The robbery took place at 6:00pm. Several police and detectives mobilised to the location, according to police reports.

  Police reacted quickly and intense searches were carried out in St. Peters. R.B. (25) and R.E.P (29) were seen sitting suspiciously in a car on Apricot Road. “These men were controlled and searched, at which time a handgun and a considerable amount of cash was found,” stated police on Saturday.

  Neither man could give an acceptable account of who owned the firearm or where they had gotten the money. Both men were arrested on the spot and taken to police headquarters in Philipsburg where they remain in custody.
