Police arrest suspect in ongoing  probe of jewellery store robbery

The robbery suspect was apprehended in the Cole Bay area and taken to the Philipsburg police station.

PHILIPSBURG--Detectives of St. Maarten Police Force KPSM have made a key arrest in the investigation into the violent armed robbery that took place on Friday, October 17, at Ocean Jewellery inside the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Dawn Beach.

    On Friday morning, November 21, around 9:30am, officers carried out an operation in the Cole Bay area, resulting in the arrest of a male suspect with the initials T.O.R. The individual, an employee of a parcel delivery company, was detained in connection with a vehicle believed to have been used during the robbery.

    During the October heist, three masked suspects entered the hotel premises in a stolen black Kia Soul. Armed with a firearm, they stormed the jewellery store and escaped with an undisclosed quantity of jewellery.

    As part of the investigation, KPSM previously released surveillance images in hopes of identifying those involved. Detectives continue to search for additional witnesses and information that could help move the case forward.

    Investigators stress that even seemingly minor details may prove valuable. Anyone who noticed suspicious activity or who recognizes individuals from the surveillance stills is urged to contact police.
