  1. EUSTATIUS--“Peace in the midst of the storm” is the theme of a prayer service that will be held in St. Eustatius on Monday, June 1, to seek protection of the island for the 2020 hurricane season, which officially kicks off on the same date.

The service will be simulcast live on Radio Statia (92.3FM), Empire Radio (101.9FM) and FAB Radio (90.3FM) from 7:00 to 8:30pm Monday.

Religious leaders from several churches on the island will speak during the service, including Methodist Minister Vincia Celestine; Apostolic Faith Minister Kathleen Plunkett; Big Stone Fellowship Pastor Maurice Howard; Roman Catholic Priest Simon Wilson and others. The service will feature music, prayers, inspirational words, scripture readings and other topics.

Government Commissioner Marnix van Rij and St. Eustatius Fire Chief Andre Bennett will also be part of the programme.

The hurricane prayer service was held at a church in previous years and persons of different religious denominations came together to worship and pray for a safe hurricane season, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the service will be held live via broadcast radio.
