Paramilitary support

The Volunteer Corps St. Maarten VKS board met with Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin recently to discuss cooperation between VKS and the Volunteer Korps Curaçao (VKC), VKS’ continued role at the Pointe Blanche prison and training for VKS-ers by the Dutch Marines. The two parties also discussed the scheduling of quarterly meetings.

The VKS plays an important role regarding St. Maarten’s safety and security capacity. This became quite evident following the passing of Hurricane Irma, as the VKS soldiers assisted the Justice apparatus by playing a pivotal role in keeping public order, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office.
