Oyster Pond burglary suspect to face charges

MARIGOT--A burglary suspect currently incarcerated in Guadeloupe awaiting trial in December, was arrested at his home on October 19, and is the prime suspect in a spate of burglaries, at least ten, in the Oyster Pond area in the last few weeks, the Gendarmerie disclosed.

He was identified on video surveillance footage on October 13, while in the process of a theft at Sunrise Residence.

Earlier this week on Wednesday at around 1:00pm, 50 expensive watches valued at 400,000 euros were stolen from a jewellery store in Marigot. The robbers had spent days drilling a hole big enough for a person to squeeze through in the wall behind Goldfinger store in Marina Royale.

The store’s alarm immediately went off once one of the robbers had gained entry; however, there was enough time to steal the watches before the Gendarmerie patrol arrived.

No arrests have been made to date, Capitaine Régis Turlan Arto said on Friday.
