New recruits of the Fire Department of Caribbean Netherlands (Brandweerkorps Caribisch Nederland, BKCN)
KRALENDIJK--The newest recruits of the Fire Department of Caribbean Netherlands (Brandweerkorps Caribisch Nederland, BKCN) have successfully completed the first phase of their Manschap A training program.
The aspirants began their training on September 1, 2025, and on November 20, 2025, they completed the initial training block, which focused on Technical Assistance (Technische Hulpverlening, THV) and Hazardous Materials Incident Response (Incidentbestrijding Gevaarlijke Stoffen, IBGS).
Commanders of the BKCN expressed pride in the progress of this group. Under the guidance of local instructors, the recruits have shown clear development and are steadily becoming reliable future firefighters.
Currently, the aspirants are gaining practical experience by participating in on-call shifts. This hands-on exposure allows them to apply their training in real-world scenarios, preparing them for future deployment during emergencies. Completing this first training block marks an important step toward their final qualification as full members of the BKCN.
The next phase of their training begins in February 2026, focusing on firefighting skills. This will be followed by Aircraft Incident Response (Incidentbestrijding Luchtvaartuigen, IBL), reflecting the department’s responsibility for both urban areas and airport operations. The IBL training is scheduled for June and July 2026. Upon completion of these modules, the aspirants will have met all training requirements set by the BKCN and will be fully qualified firefighters.
With this milestone, the new cohort of recruits moves closer to serving their islands and communities, contributing to the safety and security of residents across the Caribbean Netherlands.
