Command transfer to Glenn Werleman
ORANJESTAD/WILLEMSTAD--Two new Commanders for the Aruba Militia (AruMil) and Curaçao Militia (CurMil), respectively Glenn Werleman and Ryan Cabenda, were officially installed during change-of-command ceremonies on both islands.
According to a release, these appointments mark a significant step in the continued professionalisation of both units. It said the new commanders bring extensive military experience and possess deep knowledge of the region.

Major Werleman has been associated with AruMil since 1997. Throughout his career, he has held various positions within the militia, the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard and the Netherlands Marine Corps. Until recently, he served as aide-de-camp to the Governor of Curaçao.
Major Cabenda began his career in 2004 with CurMil (then still known as AntMiL). He has gained extensive experience with the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard and served as aide-de-camp to the Governor of Curaçao from 2011 to 2015.
“The transfer of command takes place at a pivotal moment. Both units are currently undergoing significant development. The focus is hereby on raising operational standards and further professionalising the military personnel. With the arrival of these experienced officers the foundation is laid for a strong future,” added the statement.
AruMil and CurMil are operational light infantry units. They operate under the command of the Commander of the Navy in the Caribbean (CZmCarib). Although the personnel are civil servants employed by the countries of Aruba and Curaçao, they are seconded to CZmCarib to contribute to regional security.
Both units are fully deployable for the three main tasks of the Dutch armed forces in the region, ranging from regional security to support during local incidents.
