New Coast Guard boats

This is the Metal Shark with which the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard will patrol the islands from February. They are to gradually replace the Super RHIBS (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats) used for the past 13 years. A dozen of the Defiant 38 model vessels have been ordered in the US. They are said to reach speeds of more than 40 knots and their enclosed cabin with “pillarless glass pilothouse” offers better protection against the weather. The crew of maximum six will be trained by American experts.
