New Cabinet expected to be sworn in this week

PHILIPSBURG--Democratic Party (DP) leader Member of Parliament (MP) Sarah Wescot-Williams has completed her task as formateur for the incoming interim Council of Ministers. She delivered her final report on December 30, a dozen-plus days ahead of her January 12 deadline.

Following her submission, she said: “I will now enjoy the New Year’s holiday with the hope and confidence that early, very early in the New Year, we will have the change of government, barring any unexpected hiccups.”
There has been no indication that there will be hiccups, in spite of talk in the community to the contrary. One such floated bit was that Minister candidate Leona Marlin-Romeo had a red flag in her screening report because she received Government long-lease land within 24 hours of her request.
However, that claim had no basis in truth. The land granted to her by then-Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Development, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI William Marlin on May 31, 2013, related to a request dating back to November 21, 2005.
A follow-up to the 2005 request was made on May 10, 2013, and this led to the then-Minister signing off on the land grant.
