Navy places buoys

Navy ship Sr. Ms. Pelikaan has placed six new mooring buoys underwater around St. Eustatius. The buoys are used for the mooring of maritime ecological research vessels.

The buoys are also for diving schools that generate a source of income for the island. The buoys weigh five tonnes each. The buoys were placed in close cooperation with St. Eustatius National Parks Stenapa, the organization responsible for the management of the island’s national parks above and below the water. The Pelikaan is sailing in the waters of the Dutch Windward Islands to support the rotating marine detachments in their training and exercises. The support ship heads back to Curaçao on Friday.
