MPs to continue talks on residents’ petition today

PHILIPSBURG--Members of Parliament (MPs) will continue their discussions today on the petition submitted by residents following a demonstration on August 29.

  The meeting of the Central Committee of Parliament first called on September 24 had to be adjourned after a country-wide power outage gripped households and businesses.

  Minister of Justice Cornelius de Weever will be present for the meeting.

  The meeting is set to start at 2:00pm. The discussion point is: “Petition Justice Sint Maarten.” The meeting was requested by United People’s (UP) party MPs Theo Heyliger, Chanel Brownbill, Luc Mercelina and Sidharth “Cookie” Bijlani, and St. Maarten Christian Party (SMCP) MP Claude Peterson.

  The public can follow the proceedings live at the House of Parliament located across from the Court House in Philipsburg. The session will be carried live on St. Maarten Cable TV Channel 120, 107.9FM, 98.1FM,
