MARIGOT--A 24-year-old young man was killed in a motorbike accident in the Mont Vernon area on Friday evening, at around 7:30pm. The deceased was not identified by the Gendarmerie, but social media posts named him as Alvin Bute.

According to the preliminary indications from the Gendarmerie, the victim for unknown reasons lost control of the motorbike and was jettisoned from the bike into the path of an oncoming car. The accident took place between Hope Estate and the Leader Price supermarket commercial area.

“We are still investigating the circumstances of the accident,” said Commandant Stéphan Basso. “He was riding a Suzuki GSR 1,000 cc modified motorbike. It seems he lost control, maybe he hit something on the road, we don’t know, but he was ejected and hit the oncoming car, or went under the wheels. There was no real damage to either vehicle consistent with a collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Basso added drug and alcohol tests were returned negative. The car driver was not injured. “We believe the victim was wearing a crash-helmet which was seen nearby by a doctor.”
