Mind your words

Curaçao authorities arrested 65-year-old Dirtley Sparen, an activist on social media and local radio stations, who is critical of politics, government and Parliament. He was asked to report to the police station and was subsequently detained for defamation, threats and incitement on Facebook. Sparen reportedly called for the liquidation of Supervisory Board chairman of the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS) Etienne Ys in connection with the Girobank crisis. Last July refinery holding “Refineria di Kòrsou” had already filed a complaint against Sparen.
