Mental patient stabs shopper with ice pick

BUSH ROAD--A shopper going into Le Grand Marché was stabbed by a man armed with an ice pick on Friday close to 5:00pm. The mentally unstable man who attacked the shopper repeatedly said, “Jesus is coming!”

The victim said he had been about to enter the supermarket to do some shopping when the man, who was standing outside, had attacked him unexpectedly and stabbed him three times in his back with an ice pick. The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics and then taken to Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment.

According to police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson, “The suspect, who turned out to be a mental patient and well-known to police, was arrested on the scene and taken to the police station for further investigation. The ice pick used in this case was also confiscated for further investigation.”

The victim was released from hospital on Friday, as the wounds were flesh wounds.
