Man remanded for murder of Benta

ANGUILLA--The Royal Anguilla Police Force (RAPF) arrested and charged Tyrone Carty (47) from Black Garden for the offence of murder of Robert Benta of East End. The murder took place on June 3, 2018.

Carty appeared before the Magistrate to answer to the charge and was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison. He is due to appear in court on Thursday, October 1, when the preliminary inquiry will commence.

In other police news, Police Commissioner Paul Morrison reported that the West Fest J’Ouvert and Beach Party held on Saturday, June 13, was incident-free. He thanked the organising committee and the patrons, who he said all played their part in adhering to guidelines and making the event run smoothly.

Morrison said, “The RAPF is cognisant of the fact of people wanting an avenue for self-expression, however, we are living in different times and so the policing approach must be adjusted to serve the public and at the same time, create a safe environment. To make this a reality, there must be a partnership approach between the police and the public, and the West Fest J’Ouvert was a perfect illustration of such partnership.”
