Man hit by scooter suffers broken leg

COLE BAY--A pedestrian was struck by a scooter while attempting to cross Welfare Road on Thursday around 8:00am.

The scooter rider complained of pain in his hip and lower body. According to acting police spokesman Inspector Steven Carty, the pedestrian suffered a broken leg. Both were treated by paramedics on the scene and transported to St. Maarten Medical Center for further treatment.

The scooter rider was released from the hospital after treatment, while the pedestrian stayed for further observation.

From eyewitness accounts and an investigation conducted at the scene by the Traffic Department, it was determined that the pedestrian was at fault in causing the accident.

The incident caused major traffic congestion on already congested streets.
