Liz Thompson keynote speaker for Statia Sustainability Conference

ST. EUSTATIUS--Barbadian attorney and consultant on sustainable development Henrietta Elizabeth "Liz" Thompson will be the keynote speaker for the Statia Sustainability Conference in September. The conference will be held in Mike van Putten Youth Centre on September 26 and 27. Thompson is a coach, motivational writer and speaker. Professionally, she has served as a parliamentarian, Minister of Government and Senator, as well as Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations with responsibility for the Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development. She is a recipient of the prestigious Champion of the Earth Award.

  Thompson holds a law degree from Robert Gordon University, a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) with distinction from University of Liverpool, a LLB from University of the West Indies and a LEC from Hugh Wooding Law School. She is the co-author of From Rio+20 To a New Development Agenda, and The Plain Language Guide to Rio+20 and the author of the motivational book Make Yourself Happy.

  St. Eustatius National Parks Foundation Stenapa is an active partner of the Statia Sustainability Conference. The theme of the conference is dubbed: Sustainability - A Tool for Development. “Climate Change is here to stay and it will have a huge effect on the island.

  The conference gives insights on how to adapt to climate change, discusses the responsible use of water and energy, and coastal developments. With a strong and resilient nature, Statia is ready for the future”, said Clarisse Buma, Director of Stenapa.
