Lio Capriles passes away

WILLEMSTAD—Former Antillean banker Lionel "Paps" Capriles passed away Thursday evening at the age of 83 in Curaçao, after having been ill for some time.

Capriles became known as the director of the Maduro & Curiel’s Bank (MCB). Until his 75th birthday, he was still involved with the largest bank on the island and in the Dutch Caribbean.

Lio, as they also called him, was also very well-known in the community for his social contributions. He served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Society and Police Foundation, Chairman of the Social Safety Net Foundation ("Reda Sosial"), member of the Council of Advice, President of Rif Resort (former Sonesta and now Marriot hotel) and President of the Board of the World Trade Centre (WTC).
