PHILIPSBURG--“Mama, Tell Me A Story” by Angela Johnson and “The Wonderful Things You Will Be” by Emily Winfield Martin were among the stories shared with children at Philipsburg Jubilee Library by invited readers on Saturday, as part of the Library’s Pre Mother’s Day Market.
The marketplace in the library’s foyer also doubled as a storytelling venue for children visiting with parents and those who attend the weekly “Dutch is Fun” programme facilitated by Eudia Saidjan-Comoalius. A dozen vendors selling Mother’s Day baskets, food and drinks participated in the market.
The first team of readers were a mother and son duo – former Education Minister Patricia Lourens and her son Alston. They entertained the children with a number of stories. They were followed by stories and poems from Julie Alcin and poet Sjorensly Valies as well as journalist Alita Singh.
Event coordinators were Maryland Powell and Melackia Spencer for the story-telling and market respectively. The library hopes to make this an annual event that will draw more vendors and attendees.
