PHILIPSBURG--Member of Parliament (MP) Lyndon Lewis has congratulated Terryanne Tondu on earning a bachelor’s degree in International Communication Management from Fontys University and a master’s degree in Management of Cultural Diversity from Tilburg University.
Lewis, of Nation Opportunity Wealth (NOW) and a former acting Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, also commended Tondu’s master’s thesis, which examined how St. Maarteners navigate identity and belonging within the Dutch Kingdom. “Terryanne’s accomplishments reflect dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to learning. I am particularly pleased that her research places the experiences of St. Maarteners at the centre of an important conversation about identity, culture, and belonging,” MP Lewis stated.
“Our people have stories and perspectives that deserve to be heard and understood. Research focused on these experiences can encourage meaningful dialogue about who we are and how we relate to the wider Kingdom,” he added.
He said her research provides an opportunity to reflect on how St. Maarteners understand their place within the Kingdom while maintaining connections to their island, heritage and community.
Lewis also highlighted the importance of recognising academic achievements and encouraging young people to pursue higher education. He extended his congratulations to Tondu and other St. Maarten students studying locally and abroad, wishing them continued success in their educational and professional pursuits.
