PHILIPSBURG--Outgoing Minister Emil Lee plans to have a public hand over of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Affairs VSA so that the new minister can “hit the ground running.”
Lee recalled that when he entered office ten months ago, there was not even a computer in his office. Lee said in addition to the public hand over of the ministry, he also plans to have a detailed report of what has been accomplished by the ministry over the past ten months that he had been in office as well as the opportunities and risks going forward. He wants to make a “deliberate effort” to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible for the new Government. “When I came in as minister, I did not even have a computer. So that when the next VSA minister comes in he can hit the ground running because that is the right thing for the country,” Lee said. Lee has done his “best” to secure a new general hospital for St. Maarten, achieve National Health Insurance (NHI) and labour reform and “I will do all in my power to ensure that the progress made is smoothly transitioned to the new Government. I had a wonderful time. I enjoyed the past ten months. I have learnt a lot and it has been my honour to serve the country.”
He thanked the Democratic Party (DP) for giving him an opportunity to serve the country as minister of VSA for the past 10 months and said it had been a pleasure working with his fellow ministers.
