Knife-wielding, half-naked man taken to MHF Monday

COLE BAY--A half-naked man, who was wearing just a top and was naked from the waist down, was wielding a knife as he was about to enter a supermarket at the intersection of Welfare and Windsor Roads was stopped by police officers and later transported by ambulance to Mental Health Foundation (MHF) around 11:00am on Monday.

The man was seen smoking what was believed to be a “crack pipe” near the supermarket earlier in the day. The man is believed to be a substance abuser and has mental health issues.

A video of the same man began circulating on social media over the weekend showing him stripping off his pants on the roadside in front of St. Peters Pharmacy on L. B. Scott Road and using his footwear to pound on the pants. He believed something was inside his pants crawling on his skin at the time.

Some residents expressed concern about the growing number of substance abusers and mentally-ill persons who are walking the streets and being a potential risk to others.
