Kitchen blast

The St. Maarten Fire Department was called out to the White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation in St. John's on Sunday night because of a small gas explosion.

According to the Fire Department, the cause of the explosion was probably the combination of a leaking gas bottle and faulty wiring or a switch on an electric stove. The building was evacuated as a precaution. The Fire Department gave the all-clear shortly afterward and normal operations resumed. The Fire Department also removed the gas bottle and the electric stove from the building. No one was hurt as a result of the explosion.
