THE HAGUE--The Netherlands National Detective Agency announced on Wednesday, that it would have the investigation file in the case of the Aruba man Mitch Henriquez who died in June 2015 after being arrested by The Hague police ready by late October.
The National Detective Agency (Rijksrecherche) has heard dozens of witnesses in the months after the incident. The five police officers involved in Henriquez’s arrest have been heard as well; all five officers have been marked as suspects.
The many images and footage shot of the arrest and the events shortly thereafter have been collected and analysed. The findings of this tactical investigation along with the forensic investigation should give a more complete view on what happened that Saturday evening at the music festival at the Zuiderpark in The Hague, on June 27.
The 42-year-old Henriquez was arrested after he reportedly yelled that he carried a weapon. He resisted arrest which resulted in violence being used against the victim. Henriquez, who was on vacation in the Netherlands from Aruba, died in a hospital the following day.
Subsequently, the National Detective Agency started an investigation led by two Public Prosecutors. The investigation file is nearing completion and is expected to be sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office late October. The Prosecutor’s Office will take the ultimate decision whether to prosecute the suspects in this case. It is unknown when this will be.
