I Can Foundation founder dies

DUTCH QUARTER, St. Maarten–-The founder of foster home I Can Foundation Cassandra Gibbs has passed away. Her sudden passing has left the community, in particular persons who have known and worked with her for over two decades, in stunned grief.

Reports indicated that Gibbs passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was discovered by foundation staffers in her Dutch Quarter home that also doubles as the long time foster home on Friday morning. Her body was transported from her home to a funeral parlour.

Gibbs was passionate about caring for the community’s most vulnerable – its children. Some came to her bosom through parental abandonment and others were placed in her care by the Court of Guardianship and the judge for their mental and physical safety.

This stalwart caregiver was conferred as a Knight in the Order of Oranje Nassau by then queen, now Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands for her selfless dedication to children and their well-being.
