Honoured for their efforts

Parliament singled out four persons for recognition in relation to their responses in Hurricane Irma’s aftermath. Jody Garner, Richie Saith, Katsiaryna Ozkan, and Ken Crossely were honoured by Parliament Chairwoman Sarah Wescot-Williams at the reception held for the opening of the 2018-2019 Parliamentary Year on Tuesday. Garner housed fellow residents and pets, shared electricity and organised a neighbour watch. Crossely also organized a watch, among other things, and has reactivated his work ahead of Tropical Storm Isaac. Ozkan prepared and distributed free food to several hundred people for weeks after Irma. Saith took a “can-do” attitude to clean up Front Street from Wilhelminastraat to Schoolsteeg. He cleared the section, along which he also lives, of hurricane debris, mostly by himself. Wescot-Williams said the “selfless contributions” of the four persons should not be unnoticed by the community.
