Helping to cope

Stichting Expertise Centrum Ervaringsgericht Onderwijs St. Maarten has received funding from the National Disaster Fund to fund training for teachers, coordinators of afternoon schools and social workers.

The training is for teaching a method in primary and afternoon schools in order to teach children coping skills. This programme is evidence-based and being used in several Caribbean, Asian, European and South American countries, and is also recommended by UNESCO. On Wednesday, a representative for St. Maarten, who coordinates the national disaster funding applications, was present for a second training with Dutch-speaking teachers, social workers and afternoon school coordinators (the English training took place on Tuesday).
