Heavy rainfall advisory discontinued

AIRPORT--The heavy rainfall advisory for St. Maarten was discontinued at 6:00am this morning by the Meteorological Department.

A reduction in moisture and instability will result in improved weather conditions. The atmosphere is sufficiently moist to produce isolated showers and trigger a few thunderstorms across the local area. The heavy rainfall advisory will be discontinued this morning.

However, occasional showers can become moderate to heavy and prolong flooding in vulnerable areas due to already saturated soils. Residents and users of areas prone to flooding and landslides are advised to be vigilant and/or avoid these areas whenever possible.

Moderate marine conditions will prevail for the next few days, with wave heights up to 7 feet. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution.
