ST. EUSTATIUS--A group of twelve students from the Gwendolyn van Putten (GvP) School left the island earlier this week to participate in on-the-job training in St. Maarten and to get exposure at various businesses in the country.
The students were accompanied by two teachers and four parents. The group is from the school’s hospitality and administration VMBO stream and are in third form.
GvP students usually engage in job training in St. Eustatius. The students had organised various fundraisers to raise funds for the trip. They had also received funding from NuStar.
While in St. Maarten, on Monday the students visited the National Institute for Professional Advancement (NIPA); on Tuesday, they had a day trip to University of St. Martin (USM) and were also treated to a game night while at USM. On Wednesday, the students visited Le Grand Marche, where they were shown various administrative functions, and on Thursday, they travelled to the Sonesta Great Bay Beach Hotel where they were shown how the breakfast is set up, as well as how laundry and the various activities at the hotel are conducted.
The students are expected to return to Statia this weekend.
