Govt. building evacuated after PC catches on fire

PHILIPSBURG--The Government Administration Building was evacuated on Wednesday morning after a computer on the lower level caught fire, causing a fire scare in the building.

Fire officer on duty Nico van Zand told The Daily Herald the entire evacuation had taken about 20 minutes. He said it appeared as though “electrical problems” had caused the computer to catch fire, but an investigation had to be carried out to determine the exact cause.

The computer was removed from the building and the Head of Maintenance was asked to look into the problem. It was then safe for everyone to return to their posts in the building. The incident occurred around 11:00am, Van Zand said.
