PHILIPSBURG--Utilities Company GEBE was scheduled to transport its new Diesel Generator (Engine 20) to its final location at the Production Plant, around 2:00am this morning.
The company had earlier cautioned drivers to be careful on the road as the transport was expected to take some time to be completed.
On September 15, the new 11.2 megawatt Wartsila engine arrived in the country. The engine was offloaded at the harbour under the supervision of Wartsila technicians and GEBE’s Interim Managing Directors Iris Arrindell and Kenrick Chittick.
The engine was originally expected to have been transported to its permanent location within ten days of its arrival. It could not be ascertained what was responsible for the delay in transport.
The generator will replace aged generator units that have “plagued the company for the last few months with increased maintenance,” GEBE had said at the time. The newest phase of the power plant will help the water and light company continue to meet the increasing demand for power on the island.
