Ex-Minister top candidate for Airport CEO position

AIRPORT--Former Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications (TEATT) Ted Richardson is believed to be one of the top candidates for the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Princess Juliana International Airport SXM.

Richardson and several other candidates applied for the position in July. The Airport Supervisory Board has been vetting Richardson for some time now and is set to announce him as the new CEO soon, according to a source close to the selection committee.

The new CEO will be responsible for the Airport’s operations and results. The CEO is Chairman of the Board of Directors and monitors whether the agreed-on policy leads to the desired results and whether operational activities have functioned properly within the framework established by him or her.

Richardson was contacted by The Daily Herald for comment about his selection, but declined to comment. He is destined to take over the position left vacant by Regina Labega who was CEO from July 1, 2011, until July 1, 2016. The Board of Directors decided not to extend Labega’s contract due to her legal troubles.

Minister Arrindell remains mum about the appointment and stated several times that the selection of a CEO was up to the Airport Supervisory Board, not Government. She said she was aware of ads being placed seeking applicants, but had no information about the candidates or who would be chosen.
