  1. EUSTATIUS--St. Eustatius telephone company Eutel launched its COVID-19 Telecommunication Month campaign on Sunday, May 17, as part of its celebration of World Communication Day.

Eutel Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maryteresse “Liesje” Lijfrock-Redan said to the Statia community, “For the first time in a century the world is confronted with a major crisis. This is a worldwide crisis where each of us is forced to do something quite unusual. This crisis has managed to separate us from the very people who, in other times of stress, are there to help us through, such as our families, friends, neighbours and our community.”

Lijfrock-Redan said that many sad stories are being shared on the media daily, but despite it all the Eutel team encourages everyone to stay positive, stay focused, stay in faith and mainly stay strong during this time.

“On behalf of management and staff of Eutel NV, our company is celebrating World Telecommunication Day. We would like to encourage you, the people of Statia, despite this devastation to stay strong. As a small community, the support lies on us all. We are all in this together and, with God by our side, we shall overcome this pandemic. One-touch, One Community, One World and to Statia and the rest of the World: Stay Strong,” Lijfrock-Redan said.

She said the company also launched its COVID-19 “Statia Stay Strong” song video on Facebook on Sunday.

Miss Mature Queen Noris “Edna” Williams and the Daughters of the King (DOTK) Mother and Daughter Queens competition winners Teena Lopes and daughter Genesis George also contributed by creating a fun video for the campaign.

The persons involved with the video were Lijfrock-Redan, Williams, Zita Peters-Suares, Lopes, Queen Beatrix Medical Centre (QBMC) head nurse Delica Washington-Godet, Caribbean Netherlands Police Force KPCN chief agent St. Eustatius Lenaldo Courtar, Eutel Supervisory Board member Ingra Bennett, and Eutel Supervisory Board President Carlos Lopes.

Positive messages in the song were provided by Lijfrock-Redan, Government Commissioner Marnix van Rij, KPCN Officer Carlos Spanner, Washington and Lopes.

Lijfrock-Redan thanked Lopes, Dion “Mega D” Humphreys and Eugene Faneyt, the QBMC Team, KPCN St. Eustatius and everyone involved in making the video a success.

She said that despite the devastation around the world they wanted to still do something fun for mothers but also for the people of Statia.

The drawing for the winner of Eutel’s Mother’s Day Social Media Activity contest was held on Sunday. Sharday Bennett was announced as the winner of the competition.

Bennet won an HP laptop, a gift basket treat from Taste of Sweetness and a photoshoot by Jaquil Imagery, which would also include makeup by Paula Pompier.

Bennett was presented with her prizes at the Eutel office on Monday, May 18.

Eutel announced that it is also planning to carry out maintenance on Thursday, May 21, starting at 3:00am. The maintenance is scheduled to last for one hour.
