Drug bust

Customs officers at Port St. Maarten conducted a routine check on the motor vessel “Orion” on December 19. During the control, a package of what seemed to be contraband was found.

The border experts called the Justice K-9 Unit for assistance. A thorough check of the vessel was performed and no other contraband was found. The package was confiscated by the Customs authorities and taken off the vessel. Based on narcotics tests, the package was cocaine. No suspects were apprehended in this case. On the the Prosecutor’s request, the package was immediately destroyed. Customs will continue with intensified controls at all borders.
